Kamya is the Tagalog name for a Filipino flower. It is also known as the Ginger Lily or White Ginger (Hedychium coronarium). Hedychium means "sweet snow", perhaps referring to the sweetly fragrant white blooms, or to the snow white insides of the edible, spicy tubers. The fragrant white butterfly-shaped flowers have pure white petals with a hint of green in the throat. The fresh spicy scent of this plant in bloom is a real treat. Few other plants are as fragrant with a pronounced scent of gardenia - especially at night.
